About Marin Dobson

Marin Dobson is an artist who has won awards and national recognition for her distinctive oil paintings of the natural landscape. Her paintings transcend the physical scenes depicted on canvas and evoke emotion through the bold use of color, texture, and composition. Her oil paintings have been juried into prestigious national shows in New York, San Francisco and Santa Fe.

Her work describes lyrical forms and patterns of light in a painterly style that reflect the influences of her Russian impressionist training and her study of classical painting technique. She paints primarily “alla prima” and “en plein air”. The experience of painting from life infuses her work with a luminous color quality.  Marin’s trademark oil paintings display brilliant colors and poetic forms most often of trees in autumn superimposed upon intense cobalt blue skies.

Marin says, “I am passionate about the process of painting, manipulating colors, values, temperatures and edges to create impressions and the atmospheric effects that I love. Whether the intention of my paintings is to depict drama and movement or a sense of serenity and peace, I strive for truth in strong composition that extends an invitation to the viewer.”

Marin was featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s January 2003 issue in their “Artist to Watch” article and in the October 2003 issue in the article entitled “Water Portfolio”.
